st patty's day/ my opinion

since everyone and there dog is posting about how awful all of us parents are for doing something for our kids on st patty's day, i'm going to post a little about our day! :)

1st we "celebrated" on friday because the big kids went to their dads AND because they were "celebrating" at school.

literally, the night before i cut out some decor... for my little breakfast table. it took me an hour. i don't have a husband home at night.... instead of cutting i could have been sitting on facebook, pinterest, or watching a show. but i decided to cut stuff out and chat with friends... and seriously? and hour? that's nothing. i also made my kids a little treat. saying that they were my pot of gold at the end of my rainbow... this was from ME not the leprechaun.

the night that i cut everything out my kids decided they wanted to make a trap.. ok! they could have played another DS game, or watched another movie, or fought but instead wanted to sit at the table and make traps together while their little sisters colored beside them. they talked, planned and bonded in my eyes. and WHY NOT?

friday morning, i made green lucky charm pancakes... that's it. that's all that our st patty's day was. was it huge? no. did it make my kids happy? yes. was it ridiculous? sure, but i LOVE holidays. we're moms... what else are we supposed to do? sit on pinterest? facebook? the computer, tv?

i would never write a post like this to justify myself because frankly, i. do. not. care. what other people think about me or my kids. BUT for some reason other people who do not participate in these things (WHICH IS OK!!!!) feel the need to post about us moms who do and why do we blow things out of the water or whatever! i'm not sitting here posting about how awful you are for not doing these LITTLE things. i LIKE doing little things like this, i LIKE to have fun with my kids. maybe i'm just a big kid at heart. i don't want my kids to remember an anal mom who just wanted a clean house and the appearance of perfect kids. i want them to remember a mom who had fun with them. so that's what we do. BUT if you DON'T do these things... who cares? i don't, i honestly don't even think twice about it.

anyway!!! i've said it, i'm done :)

we had a fun morning!

after school- ryder's class leprechaun gave them this little mug and the hat

and actual st patrick's day... the littles on their way to church

  1. My sentiments exactly on the whole holiday rage blogs and moms sharing their opinion on holidays and how big (or not) that we go out (or don't) on each special day in the year. I keep it simple while making traditions that are tied to color, smells and even or especially on the holidays. I don't feel bad that I do something, whether or not its simple or otherwise. I personally just want my family to know that they mean the world to me. It's fun to show it during holidays and its fun to show it everyday. But why does it make people so angry to see that other moms like to do it. I was an early childhood Ed major...I love making a big deal about kids and giving them a childhood to remember.
