well thanks to karalee (who lent me her cord) i can catch up on some blogging!! i'm sooo behind.
so here is the story....
i was scheduled to get induced on sunday jan 30 at 6:00 am, and we planned on staying overnight at my friends house on saturday...cuz i DID NOT want to wake up at 4 to shower/get ready then drive to be there that early. we had it all planned...pedicures, food, games, ect....just a fun night {karim was so excited ;) }
SO on friday night, i had finally convinced myself that i needed to clean my room and get all the laundry done and put away...this was a HUGE ordeal to me (member the back/hip pain) i got it all done except vaccuming cuz it was to noisy. i had felt tightening all day and they were a little stronger after i was done but i assumed that it was from increased activity. so, i layed down for an hour on my left side to see if they would ease up and they never did. but it wasn't anything that was tooo painful and i didn't know what to do. finally at about 3 i peed and it felt a little different...so i woke karim and said we should go to the cardston hospital just to be sure...
we got there and i don't think they were happy to see us haha...we were the ONLY ones there. they hooked me up and said that i was contracting but they were still eratic. i had a younger nurse and an older one...we never really saw the older one, but the younger nurse was really good and straight forward. she called the doctor and he didn't want to come in and just to tell us to head to lethbridge to miss the storm (there was a huge snow storm warning that night) haha, ah ok doc, thanks!! so we didn't know what to do....i didn't want to get there and then get sent home, i had no idea what was going on down there. the young nurse told me that she could "check me" but she has never done it before and doesn't know how accurate she would be....and the older nurse, hurt her wrist so she couldn't check.....ya i know... dumb...good thing she didn't have a "real" emergency.
so i decided just to go and if we got sent home well then oh well, we'll just stay at my friends and hang out all day saturday, then go in sunday as planned.
we go home, pack and head in...the storm followed us the whole way...pretty nasty!!
by the time we got to lethbridge it was about 4:30 and the nurse was shocked with our cardston hospital story. she hooked me up and checked me (i was only 3)....then called my dr. who was on call the whole weekend. dr told them it was ok and to admit me, so they did. it was still surreal at this point cuz i wasn't in pain. the day was finally here and i didn't believe it. so karim and i hung out and walked around...i tried to rest but lets be real...as if lol.
dr came in at about 6 with a resident and asked if he could be present in the birth...i said sure, whats 1 more dr....heck with skylee i had 17.
so the resident came in and broke my water at about 9:15 (ya, about time) i could tell it was a resident...i've had my water broken 3 times before and never felt it...this time i felt it!!
anyway....i started feeling things by this time, and i asked for an epidural. they checked and i was only 4, so the dr said no it will either slow or stop things. i was NOT impressed!!! i was still complaining and so the nurse came in and felt my stomach and "timed" my contractions for me for a little while and said they were still 3-4 min apart....uhh no sorry they were not. after she left i watched the clock and had 3 contractions in 6 min. and they were painful! so karim went back out and got the nurse....she asked if i wanted to get in the shower on the birthing ball...i said sure (not so happy lol) i could BARELY walk to the shower...and it was only 10 steps away. it was about 10:15 by this time. i stayed in the shower for about 25 min with SUPER hot water and "bounced" on the birthing ball....it was AWESOME!! my new best friend!! the last 10 min the contractions were getting un bearable and i sent karim out about 3 times to have them come check me...they kept saying they were coming but finally the last time karim went out he told them "if you don't come check her your going to be delivering a baby on the ball" and he stood there until she came.
she came in to help me get out, and man was that hard!!! i finally got into the bed and the resident came in to check. after he was done checking he nicely and calmly got up, walked to the garbage to throw his gloves away and slowly walked back and tells the nurses that they better call my dr to get here and then turns to me and says so kindly "well you've progressed quite a bit since we last checked and now your 8 cm" i'm thinking, DUH THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING...but instead i kindly say "can i get my epidural now?" as i watched his face kinda brush me off, i knew what that meant and i started to panic...i knew what was coming (i went natural with jaylene and ryder, and got an epidural with skylee...and let me tell ya...i don't know why people choose natural haha) i just remember looking at karim and starting to cry. it was really hard for him to just stand there.
as i was looking at him, i said i gotta push...so he runs out there to tell them and they all come running...my dr wasn't there yet, but the resident was. i started pushing and it was torture...i could feel EVERYTHING. (oh my dr is here by now) i remember looking up at the ceiling and telling myself "it'll be over soon" "few min you'll be holding your baby" "the head is half out, your almost done" haha i was coaching myself and it helped...plus my dr was another coach cuz the resident was delivering.
karim was holding one leg and my nurse was holding the other....it was cute, she was 32 weeks preg and she told me "if you feel a kick i'm sorry" haha and i did feel one little nudge.
she was born at 11:25 am weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces 21 inches long. she was sooo swollen, and she barely cried.
like usualy i started to hemmorage, and when that happens they start pushing on your stomach HARD and massaging...it's terrible! by this time, my dr kindly pushes the resident out of the way and does the work but asks him what he would do in this kind of situation ect. after the placenta is delivered and thier done working on my stomach i got to hold/meet pyper. it was neat...i never got to see skylee, and with jaylene and ryder i hemmoraged so bad that i was completly out of it.
by the time everything was said and done my hemagloben was at 61 and it's supposed to be between 120-140. they offered me a blood transfushion but i declined....my body can handle low blood pretty good and they are people that need it more than me.
they got me up and showered and moved into my room. my mom and sister met us in the hall. they were excited....seeing them i started to cry (nobody noticed, thankfully lol...talk about emotional)
*my mom was supposed to be in the delivery room with me (she was with my last 3) but the storm in the night was really bad, and we were worried about the roads, and my dad was watching the other kids so she would have had to drive herself. and time wise, we didn't know when to have her come...so she stayed home and was safe and we had my bestie nikki in with us. i think she thought it was pretty awesome! i'm glad she got to experience it.*
i was tired but wide awake. we hung out with baby pyper, got her bathed and dressed...and visited with family and friends.
after visiting hours karim ran and got me some arby's (my fav) and we just hung out the rest of the night. we were so exhausted but we would wake up and chat in the night when the baby woke up and then pass out in the next min haha. at about 7 karim took the baby to the TV room to let me get a couple hours or sleep. we were discharged at about noon.
we stopped at wal mart, got a few things...then headed home to see the kids!!! exciting :)
(luv the rag-a-muffin look)
we called my parents to tell them we were on our way home and told them not to tell the kids...that we wanted to surprise them. so when we were a block away we called and my dad had the kids in the living room hiding under a blanket cuz something was coming. when we walked in they were so excited. they ran to us and couldn't wait to get that baby out of the car seat.
skylee was napping when we got home, but after a some snuggling jaylene snuck down and woke her up lol. i don't really think she knew what to do or think...but she did good!!
all in all skylee did pretty good....the 1st week was a little rough. i was hormonal and sad for skylee cuz she had some rough nights where she would just scream and cry... and then i would cry cuz my poor baby was sad.
they have the same bottle so when skylee 1st saw karim giving pyper a bottle she sat there and didn't cry, scream or do anything but just had one little tear roll down her cheek while karim told her...babies bottle. break. my. heart.
BUT she has adjusted very well and loves to give pyper kisses
Skylee
she likes to bounce to boucy chair and say shh when pyper fusses
she likes to help change diapers...she sits beside karim and hands him the wet ones
she is always bringing the baby a blanket or a soother
anytime she see's the baby she goes right to her face and says hi about 5 times
Ryder
will hold her the entire time while watching a movie
always kissing her
when he comes in the room, he just casually touches her to let her know that he was there
Jaylene
bounces/rocks her while i get a bottle ready
hold her whenever i need her too
but mostly, mothers and takes care of skylee so well and mothers her while i'm busy with pyper
Karim
has done amazing and helped me so much.
him not having a job the last month of my pregnancy and the 1st couple of weeks after pyper has really been a blessing. from getting up with jaylene for school, to playing with ryder and skylee, to doing laundry, making meals ect (while i was preg)
to taking the baby some nights so i can sleep....still getting up with jaylene for school. if i've been up most of the night with pyper he comes and gets her after he drops jaylene off and will keep her so i can sleep...while taking care of ryder and skylee.
he's just the best husband/daddy in the world!!
and of course my parents...my mom just can't get enough of this new little baby...she just loves her. she's gonna be sad when we move.
i couldn't have asked for a better family/support system out there
NOW, this post has taken me WAY to long haha. and i'm not checking for spelling, so deal!!
***i do need to add that my nurses were really good and really on top of things, they couldn't do anything about the epidural so that wasn't their fault. and i think that just sometimes that they forget that this isn't my 1st labour or baby lol.***

I'm glad you finally got around to doing this post! I have been impatiently waiting!
ReplyDeletePyper is so beautiful! She looks so much like Skylee. I'm glad to hear that you all are adjusting quite well and that you have such an amazing family to help you out! I hope I get to meet Pyper soon!
