respect

i feel like most of the world is lacking respect. people hide behind profile pictures and computers. i've debated writing this post for awhile now, i didn't want to get in trouble... but guess what? it's my blog :)

karim has been in the food industry basically his whole life, his mom is a chef and has a store in mexico, and he's just always loved the business.

he's worked at moxies for almost 2 years, and even though we won't be there forever it has been very good to us!

along with the good, comes the bad.... some of the stories that i hear shock me. people are soo soo rude! and sadly... the worst stories that i hear are mormon ladies!!! and waiters know... they will pass up the chance to serve them because of how rude they are. (kinda sad that that's the rep we get) it's like people walk into a restaurant and expect miracles... forgetting that these waiters and waitresses are normal people. like you and me. and just because their job is to serve you, doesn't mean you get to treat them like trash. i read a quote on pinterest that said "if a person is nice to you and not nice to the waiter... is not a nice person"

the worst is ladies, i have yet to hear a bad story about a rude man... but women on the other hand... holy cow. i have told karim many many times that i could NEVER be in that business because i don't hold my tongue. if your rude to me, i'm sorry i will tell you how it is.

ANYONE that KNOWS karim, knows he is the most mellow, kind, patient man! most people that have karim as a server compliment him and tell the managers how amazing he is and will always ask for him when they come back. he is a good server, a good people person. but he's also human (shocking right) he has a family, and a life. i could tell you many stories but i don't have all night. some examples are- he's been called a thief (for not giving a customer their penny back) people have been racist to him and shoved their hand in his face motioning for him to stop talking, then ask for a different server. ect.

i'm not saying that there isn't crappy servers out there because believe me, i've had my share of them. but here are some things to think about when your out....

-when you go 15 min before they close... eat, then chat for an hour... that server has to wait for you. instead of coming home and going to bed so he can be up at 6 for school he sits and waits for you to visit chatting... 1 1/2 after the restaurant has closed. not cool people!

-when you go with a group of 20 people to share a dessert and drink water and then demand refill after refill and your upset that you have an empty glass.... the waiter probably has 4-5 other tables that are actually eating and drinking. they are and should be the priority.

-they aren't perfect people!! not tipping because you don't think they "deserve" it, is just rude. this is how they provide for their family.

-anything that you tip, they have to tip the kitchen a certain percentage out of your tip.

-a hair in the food? statistics show that unless is it cooked in your food it's 97% chance NOT from the kitchen. could be from the server walking your food over, could be floating in the air, and most usually, it comes from you.

-it's NOT the servers fault if the kitchen staff makes a mistake. so don't kill the messenger!

maybe i'm out of line, maybe i'm not. but i've heard some awful stories and it's quite sad. i don't know why people feel like they don't need to respect other human beings! since when is that ok?!?!

that is my rant.. and like i said we have had so many great, wonderful people and experiences and they out weigh the bad, but maybe just think about these things.

i'm just glad it's karim dealing with these people (with a smile on his face) and not me. i'm not a calm person! haha
